Indian origin CEO fired from company after hitting girlfriend 117 times

Gurbaksh Chahal, the Indian-origin CEO of RadiumOne, who escaped jail despite beating his girlfriend 117 times, has been fired from his post, according to a report on Re/Code. The company has also confirmed that news. According to a statement by the company, "the board of directors at RadiumOne voted to terminate the employment of Gurbaksh Chahal as CEO and Chairman of the company." According to the report on Re/Code, "the directors, largely its venture investors, took action last night," and it also goes on to say that Chahal did not step down or offer to do the same. While the company has taken the decision to fire Chahal, the former CEO continues to plead innocence and has written a strongly worded blogpost titled 'Can you handle the truth?' in his defence.

In his blogpost he has said,
"The situation that resulted in my legal case began when I discovered that my girlfriend was having unprotected sex for money with other people. (emphasis his) (She testified to this in her interviews with the cops.) I make no excuse for losing my temper. When I discovered this fact and confronted my girlfriend, we had a normal argument. She called 9-11 after I told her I was going to contact her father regarding her activities. And yes, I lost my temper. I understand, accept full responsibility and sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart for that. But I didn’t hit her 117 times, injure her, or cause any trauma as the UCSF medical reports clearly document. This was all overblown drama because it generates huge volumes of page views for the media given what I have accomplished in the valley."

Chahal has said that the allegations against him are "grossly exaggerated" and that he is being attacked because of his ethnicity. He also wrote, "Celebrities in sports, entertainment and business, and high net worth individuals in general are all potential targets. It was only a matter of time when I would fall prey."

He denied hitting his girlfriend "117 times" and said that his girlfriend was also appalled by the charges made by the police. Chahal was arrested in August last year after police responded to his girlfriend's 911 domestic violence call at his San Francisco penthouse apartment.
RadiumOne is Chahal's third company. He had built two advertising based companies before. ClickAgents which he sold to Value Click in 2000 for $40 million and BlueLithium, which he sold to Yahoo in 2007 for $300 million. RadiumOne is currently the company is valued at $500 million and will go public soon. With inputs from PTI
